Quiet family man and hard-working snowplow driver Nels is the lifeblood of a glitzy resort town in the Rocky Mountains because he is the one who keeps the winter roads clear. He and his wife live in a comfortable cabin away from the tourists. The town has just awarded him “Citizen of the Year.” But Nels has to leave his quiet mountain life when his son is murdered by a powerful drug lord. As a man who has nothing to lose he is stoked by a drive for vengeance. This unlikely hero uses his hunting skills and transforms from an ordinary man into a skilled killer as he sets out to dismantle the cartel. Nels’ actions ignite a turf war between a manically unpredictable gangster known as Viking and a rival gang boss. Justice is served in one final spectacular confrontation that will leave (almost) no one unscathed.
In the final gun battle, many of the guns exhibited muzzle flashes, but there was no action in the gun, i.e. hammer did not release, gun slide did not move, etc. See more »

Indoor pollutants have a tendency to build up during the cold months when we seal ourselves in our homes. Breathing these in can result in a host of ill health effects, ranging from allergy aggravation to, in the case of radon and carbon monoxide, death. Though it can’t eradicate these contaminates itself, a good air quality monitor like the Laser Egg 2+—an upgrade of the popular Laser Egg 2—can help you understand what’s in your home’s air, so you can take the appropriate actions to clean it up.
Like its predecessor, the Laser Egg 2+ has a sleek bell-shaped design and weighs just over half a pound. It measures about 3.5 inches deep and its circular face is 4 inches in diameter. It houses a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi adapter and a 2200mAh Lithium battery that provides about eight hours of power per charge. A Micro-USB-to-USB cable is included.
The Laser Egg 2+ monitors for two common indoor pollutants: particulate matter with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometers (PM2.5) and the total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) that are emitted from paints, cleaning products, and even cooking. These are displayed on 2.6-inch full-color LCD, along with the most current indoor temperature, humidity, Air Quality Index (AQI), and a three-day weather forecast. You can cycle through these by pressing a button on top of the device next to the power switch.
Kaiterra
The Laser Egg 2+ will highlight readings that reach hazardous levels.
The Kaiterra companion app for Android and iOS allows you to view this same information on your mobile device and also lets you look at historical data over minutes, hours, and days to see how your indoor air quality fluctuates over time. Additionally, the app provides outdoor air quality readings via a local weather station. These reports include readings for AQI, PM2.5, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and ozone, though oddly not temperature or humidity.
To start using the Laser Egg 2+, I needed only to plug it in using the USB charger and turn it on. Then I downloaded the Android app, which prompted me to add the device and connect to my Wi-Fi network.
Understanding the readings on the device is pretty simple as they generally follow U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standards. AQI is displayed as a numerical value corresponding to one of six color-coded categories representing the current level of health concern—ranging from “good” to “hazardous”—for your locale. PM2.5 is displayed as micrograms per Cubic Meter of Air (μg/m3), and TVOCs are displayed as parts per million. In both these cases, a lower number is better than a higher one. You don’t need to monitor too closely though, as the Laser Egg 2+ will surface any dangerously high reading prominently on its display.
Michael Ansaldo/IDG
The Laser Egg 2+ revealed that TVOCs would spike whenever I used the stove.
The Kaiterra app is similarly easy to read. The color-coded AQI score is displayed at the top along with the current indoor temperature and humidity. This section also identifies the current primary indoor pollutant (TVOC or PM2.5). At the bottom of the screen, you can select an individual reading to see how it’s fluctuated over minutes, days, or weeks as displayed on a bar graph.
Typically, your first course of action if you get a high pollutant reading is to open your windows. That only works, though, if the air quality outside is better than it is inside. The Kaiterra app takes the guesswork out of this by providing current and historical data for outdoor conditions as well. By toggling between the indoor and outdoor data, you can determine how safe it is to ventilate your home with fresh air, and also monitor how external air quality and weather might be contributing to excessive indoor pollutants or humidity.
Fortunately, my air quality stayed in the “good” zone during my testing. PM2.5 was my “primary pollutant” for most of that time, though it was consistently at levels that posed minimal risk. The only abnormal readings I got were some spikes in TVOCs that always corresponded to cooking on the stove. After the burners were turned off, those levels would drop to “normal” levels. For now, I’m not concerned, but if it continues it might warrant deeper investigation.
The app allows a few customizations: You can select which readings you want displayed by simply toggling them on or off in the settings. You can also choose temperature to be shown in Celsius or Fahrenheit. And, as different countries use different AQI’s, you can choose the one appropriate to your location—though currently only if you live in the US, India, or China.
The Laser Egg 2+ is HomeKit enabled and you can set it up by scanning or typing the HomeKit code right in the Kaiterra iOS app and assigning its various sensors to a room. You can use Siri voice commands to check on that room’s air quality, and create automations to respond to changes, such as having your HomeKit-enabled humidifier turn on when the air gets too dry, or have your air purifier switch on when pollutant levels rise.
Overall, the Laser Egg 2+ provides most of the air-monitor essentials. It makes it intuitive to understand good and bad readings with simple visual cues. It tracks historical data in multiple visualizations, so you can easily identify air quality trends. And it helps you understand the relationship between indoor and outdoor conditions.
Having survived the farcical but utterly life-threatening events in Happy Death Day (2017), the feisty sorority sister, Tree Gelbman, finds herself in the same college dorm, thankful to be alive. However, this time, it’s Carter’s roommate, Ryan, who claims that he is reliving the same paradoxical day over and over again, as a mysterious paranoid killer in a single-toothed baby-faced mask with a big kitchen knife has made a habit of murdering him. Under those circumstances, a valiant but vain attempt to face the challenge, once more, will send Tree back to square one, trapped in an all too familiar and blood-drenched time loop. How many deaths separate Tree from a truly happy birthday? Written by Nick Riganas

This isn’t something many people like to think about in February, but tax time is fast approaching. Even if your plan is to procrastinate until just a few hours before the deadline on Monday, April 15 today’s deal is well worth picking up. Amazon is selling the H&R Block Tax Software Deluxe plus State 2018 package for just $18. It was more recently selling for $35, though was also available earlier in February for $25. Today’s deal is available for the disc version for PC and Mac, or the separate digital copies for PC and Mac.
Any way you slice it today’s offer is a great deal. With this software package you get a special offer that adds 5 percent to your refund total if you choose to get it on an Amazon gift card. It also comes with unlimited access to real-time chat with a “tax expert,” and in-person audit representation if things go south.
If you can file your taxes quickly with an EZ form then this package may not be worth it. But if your financial situation is more complicated than an income statement then this package is well worth the minor expense. It allows you to file your taxes using a step-by-step Q&A, and you can import information from other tax software. There’s also an accuracy review that can figure out if you’re at risk for an audit.
We haven’t tested this year’s version of H&R Block’s software, but our friends over at Haveaheartsavealife really liked the company’s tax package for last year’s tax season.

C by GE C-Start Smart Switch? Say that five times fast!
GE’s C-Start lineup was announced at CES earlier this year, extending the lighting-focused sub-brand from bulbs to in-wall switches. These switches work with any type of bulb, but one of the big selling points is that if you use C by GE smart bulbs, the switches can also control those bulbs, even if they aren’t physically wired into the switch. In other words, if you have multiple bulbs controlled by multiple switches, you can control them all with a single C-Start switch (provided you’re using C by GE bulbs).
From a hardware standpoint, the C-Start Switch is designed much like any other Wi-Fi connected smart switch on the market. Four pigtails emerge from the rear of the switch, and you wire these into your existing receptacle wiring with the included wire nuts. As is typical, the presence of neutral and ground wires is required. The company say the you can use these switches with a three-way or multi-way circuit through some creative wiring, but both switches on the circuit must be C by GE Smart Switches for this to work.
GE offers a small booklet of instructions for those doing a simple (single-pole) installation. I encountered no real issues here and was able to get the device installed in about 15 minutes. In fact, the block of electronics on the back of the switch seems a bit smaller than the one on most smart switches, which is incredibly helpful when it comes time to shove everything back into the junction box.
From here, configuration is done through the C by GE app, which is the same app used to control C by GE bulbs. Once you’re logged in, you simply hit the + icon to add a device and walk through a few simple steps, including connecting the switch to your Wi-Fi network. Helpfully, the setup process also walks you through connecting the switch to Alexa or Google Assistant, if you’re planning on using either of these systems. Again, I had no trouble with any of this, with only a minor hiccup that took the app a bit of extra time to find my Wi-Fi network.

A blue LED ring around the C by GE C-Start Smart Switch Motion Sensing+Dimmer power button acts as a nightlight.
Once configured, user options are limited but largely easy to understand and operate. Devices—including multiple switches and bulbs—are organized into rooms and can be controlled together. As well, you can create mood lighting scenes to control multiple devices simultaneously in multiple locations. Either rooms or scenes can be automated based on schedules, including tying actions to sunrise or sunset. If you want lights to slowly fade on or off, this can be configured for any automation rule, with fade times ranging from 10 seconds to 30 minutes.
The switch hardware includes a dimmer as well as two sensors, a motion sensor and an ambient light sensor. The dimmer function is obvious: Either use the slider in the app or use the paddles on either side of the power button on the switch face to brighten or dim the light. Click-and-hold to dim in real time, or double-click to quickly reach maximum or minimum brightness. The motion sensor (which is on by default) is similarly simple: When the sensor detects movement, it turns on the light (to the last dimness level), and lights remain on for five minutes.
Similarly, the ambient light sensor (off by default) detects the light level in the room. If the ambient sensor is turned on and motion is detected, the lights won’t come on if there’s already enough light detected. You can set the motion sensor to deactivate during nighttime hours (so the dog doesn’t set it off), though this portion of the app is surprisingly unintuitive and requires a bit of tinkering to get to work. Lastly, a blue nightlight is built into the switch as a ring around the primary power button. This light can be turned off if you desire.
All told I was very happy with operation of the C-Start Smart Switch, but less thrilled about its hacked-together appearance, which is one reason I chose to install it in my basement rather than my living room. There’s just no way around it: This is a very homely device that looks like it was cobbled together from old hospital equipment, not something released in 2019. Next to the more sophisticated looks of devices like the Wemo Wi-Fi Smart Dimmer, the situation is even more dire.
At $75, the C-Start isn’t cheap. Compare to the aforementioned Wemo (now $50, though it lacks a motion sensor) it feels pricy. It’s also about the same price as the Ecobee Switch+, which runs $80, and includes not only motion sensing but also a speaker and an Alexa system. While the C by GE C-Start works just fine, the price will need to tick down $10 to $15 to make it truly competitive.
